

Born August 9, 1941 at St Ann’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, Richard attended Christ the King Elementary School through the 6th grade followed by St. Williams Elementary for the 7th and 8th grade. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1959.
Following graduation from St. Ignatius, Richard left for Cuba with a friend hoping to use his two years of high school Spanish as an entree to employment. When that didn’t work out, he spent two weeks in Miami and equipped with his father’s gas credit card returned to Cleveland.
In late 1960, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island for three years and spent one year on the USS Albany (CG10) in the Mediterranean Sea. They also traveled to Cuba, Jamaica, Spain and Rome. He was honorably discharged in July 1964.
Richard married Joan Kickle in November 1961. They lived initially in Rhode Island where son John was born on August 2, 1962 at the Naval Hospital. Son, Tom, was born October 28, 1963 in St Ann’s Hospital in Cleveland while his daughter, Kelly, was born May 7, 1971 in Manhattan, Kansas.
Following his honorable discharge from the Navy in July 1964, Richard began working in retail management roles which ultimately led him to the Kansas City area. Once established in KC, Richard found great success in the heavy construction sales business with promotions from top salesman to General Management roles. Following his divorce in the late 80's, Richard ultimately retired in 2007 after several years in the construction business in Austin, Texas.
After retirement in 2007, Richard returned to the Greater Kansas City area to spend the last fourteen years with his family and grandchildren. Richard's son, John, is married to Carolyn (Jones), while Tom is married to Janet (Knutson) and Kelly to Jeff (Wataha). Richard has four grandchildren, John Ink, Jr., Zachary Ink, Connor Ink and step-grandson, Tyler Augustine. Richard was extremely proud of the upcoming wedding of his grandson, John Jr., to fiancee, Stephanie Hinchey, later this year. Additionally, Richard was able to rekindle a strong friendship and lots of laughs with his first wife, Joan, which lasted until his recent passing.
Richard was a huge sports fan never missing a golf tournament on television and a devoted Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan, though never losing his loyalty to the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He loved the Discovery Channel especially the log cabin building episodes and the guys digging for gold! Richard was a voracious reader, loved to cook, and a good cup of coffee.
Richard was preceded in death by a sister Janet Geraci. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he leaves sisters; Nancy Jozsa (Richard) from Avon Lake, Ohio, Mary Frances Ink from North Olmsted, Ohio, Nora Dovichak (Robert) from Wilmington, North Carolina, Peggy Mikes from Sheffield Village, Ohio, Barbara Ink Hemsath (John) from Bay Village, Ohio, Kathryn Ink Hemsath (Thomas) from Bay Village, Ohio, and Joan Beach (Richard) from San Francisco, California.
