Mr. Robert “Bob” James Hastings, son of the late Robert Carl Hastings and Edna May (Taylor) Hastings, was born December 1, 1947 in Topeka, Kansas.
He grew up as older brother to the late Ron Hastings and they settled in Raytown, Missouri. Attending Raytown South High School, he enjoyed guitar in a band named “The Yellow Pages,” playing football, and teaching guitar lessons at a music store.
Robert, age 16, took a student janitorial job at Research Medical Center, in Kansas City, back in 1963 and became fast friends with a candy striper, Diana Louise Reed, when she was 13. Six years later, they married May 17, 1969, and remained together for 54 years. He served in the Army for several years, specializing in communications, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. They traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska, with Army orders and finally returned to settle in Independence, Missouri in the early 1970s.
While living in Independence, he and Diana had two children, Christopher James Hastings, and Kimberly Ann (Hastings) West. He enjoyed attending Susquehanna Assembly of God and worked until retirement from General Services Administration.
After retirement, he liked to do Bible studies and attend church at the First Baptist Church of Stilwell, Kansas. Always seen riding around, on his mobility scooter with his 5-pound Yorkie “Lola” in the basket, the neighborhood, his close friends, and his family will dearly miss his warm smile and infectious laugh.
Robert, loving the Lord, listened to His call, and passed from this life into the next on April 26, 2023, at the age of 75 at his home in Stilwell, Kansas. His memory will be cherished by many friends and family including: his wife and best friend, Diana Hastings; his children: Chris Hastings and Kim West; his daughter-in-law: Shea Hastings; and his grandchildren: Candra and Bryan Hastings; and Ravyn, Zack, and Conner West; with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.
The family thanks you all for the love shared. A brief graveside service for Robert will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023, 10:30 AM, at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
