Robert Donald Swanson

Robert Donald Swanson, age 86 of Kansas City, MO passed away August 25, 2012 at North Care Hospice House, North Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at McGilley Antioch Chapel; burial in Mount Moriah South Cemetery. Friends may call 7-8:30pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at McGilley Antioch Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to North Care Hospice House or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mr. Swanson was born in Kansas City, MO on September 9, 1925 to George and Helen Swanson. He married Anna Marie Clayton on April 12, 1946 after service with the United States Marine Corp. during World War II. He spent nearly all of his working years with the Kansas City Southern, the Milwaukee Road and the Soo Line Railroads, retiring in 1987. During retirement, he played golf and was very fortunate to survive a lightning strike on the golf course in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Swanson; his wife, Anna Marie Swanson; brother, Gerald and sister, Jo Ann Porterfield. Survivors include his children, Robert Swanson, Jr and wife, Paulette Fonteno; Steven Swanson and wife, Becky; and daughter Marsha McVey; grandchildren, John, Daniel, Andrea, Shannon and Kyle Swanson, Peter and Sara McVey; great grandchildren, Alexis and Cooper; brother, William G. Swanson; sister, Sue Ellen McKiddy, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
