A Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, with a rosary prayed at 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 4737 N. Cleveland Ave., Kansas City, MO 64117. Roberta will be laid to rest on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Roberta was born in Kansas City, MO on February 9, 1945 to Richard and Lillian (Clopton) Shafer. She attended high School at Redemptorist in Kansas City. She married Lupe Marquez, Jr. on March 7, 1960. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1977. Roberta worked as a nurse for many years until she retired in 2000. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her caring heart and contagious smile.
Roberta is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Mike Shafer, Frank Shafer, Linda Florez, and Larry (Barbara) Shafer. She leaves behind her children, Mary (Chris) Richey, Joseph (Natalie) Marquez, Philip (Diana) Marquez, and Michelle (Gerardo) Marquez-Zamora; grandchildren, Lauren (Erick) Hall, Taylor Marquez, Abel Marquez, Samantha (Skyler) Terry, Hank Richey, Lexie Carver, Rachel Marquez, Marisela Zamora, Gabriel Marquez, Michael Marquez, Dylan Cross, Alexia Zamora, Mateo Zamora, and Valencia Zamora; brothers, John (Rena) Shafer and Tony (Delanea) Shafer of Florida; and sister-in-law, Peggy Shafer of Tennessee to cherish her memory.
Donations in Roberta’s memory may be given to NorthCare Hospice in North Kansas City Hospital.
