Roger Campbell passed away peacefully on December 15, 2014. He was a native and lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO. After graduating from Westport High School, he went on to the University of Illinois, where he graduated from the School of Engineering. He was a member of Triangle fraternity (engineering). He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia, and they raised 4 children before Virginia passed away in 1979. Several years later he married his 2nd wife, Marjorie, who passed away in 2012.
After graduation, Roger joined the E.K. Campbell Co., founded by his father in 1910. The company designed, manufactured, installed, and maintained large-space heating and air-conditioning systems for schools, churches, and factories throughout the United States. Roger guided the company through many years of growth, leaving the company only to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. Leaving the Navy as LTJG after the war, he returned to Kansas City and his world of mechanical engineering.
Many things were important to Roger during his lifetime, but primary among those were his family, the U.S. Navy, his great love for animals, the E.K. Campbell Co., and his professional activities within the field of engineering as a Life Member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). He was a gentleman to the core and made sure that his personal conduct towards others was always that of a true gentleman. He was also very quick-witted with a wonderful sense of humor that was the source of much laughter throughout the years.
Roger is survived by his 4 children, 2 daughters-in-law, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Roger’s family will host a gathering to honor him on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at The Forum, 3501 W. 95th St., Overland Park, KS 66206. It will be held in the Living Room at the Forum by the fireside, which he so enjoyed during his later years. Burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery will be private family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to either of the following two organizations: ASHRAE, E.K. Campbell Award, 1791 Tullie Circle, N.E. Atlanta, GA 30329 or Missouri German Shepherd Rescue, P.O. Box 22466 Kansas City, MO 64113.
