Rosalie Joan Ryan Hyde, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at home in Leawood, KS, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in 1943 in Leavenworth, KS, to Marion (née Benson) and Brick (David Albert) Ryan.
Rosalie’s life was centered on love, creativity, and connection. She leaves behind her twin daughters, Annette and Christine, who, along with their families, were the light of her life.
She is survived by: Annette and Padraig McGillycuddy, and their sons, Liam and Conor; Christine Walton and her sons, Ahren and Kai; her dear brother, Bill Ryan (Ilse Russell), of Leavenworth, KS; her cherished partner, Larry Isaac; beloved sister-in-law Gloria Hyde Boon; her treasured McGillycuddy family in Ireland; countless beloved cousins, neighbors, and friends in her PEO chapter, as well as her button and antique communities.
Rosalie married Don Walton and had her twin daughters, Annette and Christine. Later, both she and Don found their soulmates, Ron and Pam, creating a loving and blended family for Annette and Christine, including the twins’ brothers, Devin and Trevor Walton, whom Rosalie loved very much. Rosalie and Ron enjoyed 24 wonderful years together until his passing from cancer in February of 2005.
Rosalie earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Kansas and began her career as an elementary school teacher. After marrying Ron, she embraced her artistic passions, weaving over 1,500 rag rugs and creating beautiful watercolor paintings. She was also an avid antique collector and dealer, finding joy in discovering unique treasures. In her later years, Rosalie developed a love for button collecting, and she traveled extensively with her family, creating lasting memories in Ireland, Italy, China, Kuala Lumpur, the Netherlands, and more.
Above all, Rosalie took immense pride in her family. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who never hesitated to offer a kind word, a listening ear, or hours-long phone calls - no matter the time zone. Her kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone she met, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Rosalie’s life will be held on December 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with Visitation at 4:00pm and the Memorial Service starting at 5:00pm, at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
