Rose Mary (Sock) O’Hearn, 92, of Kansas City, MO passed away on October 3, 2019 surrounded by the love of her family. Rosary and Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 7 at 9:30 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 and burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetary.
Rose Mary was born September 6, 1927 to Adam and Mary (Koziol) Sock in Silver Creek, NE. After graduating as the Valedictorian from high school, she moved to Lincoln where she worked as Secretary to Finance Officers at the VA Hospital and Regional Office from 1945 to 1950. The VA Hospital in Omaha was opened in 1950 and she moved there to work as a Secretary to the Assistant Manager until 1959. She married John O’Hearn at St. Cecelia’s Cathedral in Omaha, NE on September 27, 1958. In 1960 the family moved to Lincoln, NE where she was a homemaker, active member of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ Church, and a Girl Scout Leader for several years. In 1971 the family moved to Kansas City, MO where they became active at St. Catherine of Siena parish and school. Rose Mary served as Vice President and President of the PTA. She managed a door to door advertising delivery service in South KC from 1973 to 1982. In 1983 she went to work for the Department of Agriculture and was presented the Administrator’s Service to Agriculture Award in Washington, DC in 1990. After retiring in 1992 she served as Vice President of Communications and Programs and President of the Serra Club of SE Kansas City. She enjoyed using her writing skills to complete biographies on the club members.
Surviving are five daughters: Erin Lombard, Chicago, IL, Teresa Moerer (Craig), Waverly, IA, Kathy Reinhardt (Jay), Overland Park, KS., Mary Andrews (Colonel Phillip Andrews), Kansas City, MO., and Jenny McKenzie (The Honorable Charles McKenzie), Kansas City, MO, sixteen grandchildren Sean Valentine (Grayson), Christian, Gregory and Dominic Lombard, Molly, Elizabeth and Alex Moerer, Amy, Julie and Ted Reinhardt, Sarah and Katie Andrews, and John, Annie, Megan and Mitchell McKenzie and two great grandchildren, Lawson and Carter Valentine. Also surviving is her brother, Frank Sock, Columbus, NE. Preceding her in death are her husband, John O’Hearn, in 2009, and her parents, and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes and Tony Rosenthal and Esther and Don Dworak and brothers, Louis and Alphonse Sock.
Rose Mary will be remembered as a faithful member of the Catholic Church, a devoted wife and loving mother and a proud grandmother. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church.
