Steve Broughton, 55, of Blue Springs, MO, passed May 5, 2015 at home with loved ones after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9th from 11-1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, 1405 W. Main St. Funeral services will start at 1:00 pm with burial following at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Steve was born on October 21, 1959 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Truman High School in 1977 as an All State Basketball Player. Steve was a 1981 graduate of William Jewell and after an outstanding career with the Cardinals he became one of the finest coaches in Missouri with outstanding basketball success at Concordia High School (Boys), Truman High School (Boys), and Grain Valley High School (Girls). He also coached golf & softball at Truman High School. He just completed his fourth year as the top assistant with the William Jewell College women's program. Just last month, he was inducted in the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and he was also a member of the Truman Hall of Fame. He loved the KC Royals, KU basketball, golf, and a good game of knock-out. Steve was preceded in death by his father Dr. Keith Broughton. He is survived by his mother Betty Broughton, wife Amy Broughton, son Jared Broughton & wife Sarah, daughter Whitney Broughton, step-children, Jackson & Alison Temples and many friends, players, students, colleagues, and all fellow Broughton’s Brawlers.
