

Tara Ellen Bergland Nelson born on October 16, 1971 in Sacramento, CA, was admitted to Overland Park Regional Hospital on May 11, 2015 and passed away on May 13, 2015 at the age of 43. She was preceded in death by her parents Sharon Lynn Bergland and Thomas Allen Whittier Bergland.
Tara is survived by her husband of 24 years, Stephen Bryan Nelson, Jr. They were married on April 16, 1992 in Merced, CA.
Tara was the proud mother of three children. Joseph Michael Guerassio born on February 14, 1989, resides in Salina, KS, attending K State University after serving five years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Krissa Lynnea Guerassio born on March 19, 1991 resides in Overland Park, KS, and is employed by Panera Bread. SrA Zachary Bryan Nelson was born on March 22, 1993 is stationed at Kunsan Air Base in South Korean and his fiancee’ Trenna Cenise Keltner, currently attending college at Oklahoma State University. Special mention to Tara’s best friend and companion Casey, her beloved German Shepherd.
Tara is also survived by her sisters, Janna Lynnette Bice of Anchorage, AK and Darla Kay Bergland Villopoto of Lewiston, ID; mother-in-law, Sondra Cooper Nelson of Olathe, KS and father-in-law Stephen Bryan Nelson who preceded her in death. Brother-in-law, Sean Mathew Nelson, wife Lindsay and sons Cooper James and Tucker Bryan of Aurora, CO. She will deeply missed by all her extended family members who were so important in her life.
Tara worked as an accounts receivable clerk with Kryger Glass until her struggle with the movement disorder, tardive dyskinesia, prevented her from continuing. She was deeply moved and appreciated all the help and support she received from her family and friends throughout her struggles. Although she endured this disorder for the last few years, this by no means defined who she was. She was taken from us to early, yet her impact on each of us will last forever. She made us laugh, she made us cry, she made us happy.
Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO.
