

Thomas Edwin “Ted” Derrick Kansas City, MO 10/22/1950 – 01/05/2018 Died peacefully in his sleep due to complications from lung cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones. Born: El Dorado, KS, the son of Odis J. and Maryalyce King Derrick Augusta Senior High School (1968) Bachelor of Science and Masters in Library and Information Management from Emporia State University Education Specialist Degree from University of Central Missouri Studied at the University of Maryland Former teacher at Mulvane, KS, and El Dorado, KS, public schools Former teacher at Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, MD Former teacher at Grandview C-4 School District, MO Former Middle/High School Librarian and District Library Media Coordinator at Park Hill School District, MO Former Audio-Visual Collection Development Librarian at Mid-Continent Public Library, KC, MO Survived by Ken Stewart, husband, and Addie of the home, sister JoZana Smith and husband Larry of Andover, KS, nephew Kemp Smith and De Burris of Andover, KS, niece Tamara Smith and great- niece Adain Smith of Andover, KS Together with Ken 37 years, married in 2001 in Toronto, Canada. Retired but an active member of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kansas City, MO, serving on the Vestry Committee and chairing the Safety and Security committee Member of the American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, and the Missouri Library Association Enjoyed the fine arts, frequenting musical and stage productions While in high school, he was an active member of the band as well as a member of the All Kansas Lions Club Band. He loved music, playing clarinet, oboe, and piano. He also sang in various musical stage productions in school. He was also a past member of the choir of Metropolitan Community Church. Loved traveling, both nationally and internationally He was a fierce friend, loved for his gentle and compassionate heart. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 27th, 2018, at 10:00 am at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 415 W. 13th Street, Kansas City, Missouri Ted will be interred in the Memorial Garden at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral at a later date.
