Tom was born April 11, 1954, in Kansas City, MO, to Fred and Barbara Raveill. The oldest of eight children, "Tommy" was a true Northeast Kansas City neighborhood kid. Attending St. Stephens Catholic School and graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1972, Tom knew the value of hard work, family, responsibility and was a loyal and great friend. His stories of youth were full of laughs and life lessons. He continued his education at Donnelly Community College and graduated from Rockhurst University with a degree in Business Administration in 1976. Tom worked in the furniture business with his Uncle, Johnny McDaniel, at South City Furniture during college and then transitioned to AAA Laundry Services. He spent the majority of his career with Kleen-Tex, Industries as a sales representative. For twenty years he spent time traveling the country meeting and developing relationships with many individuals who weren't just customers to Tom, but friends.
Tom met Jean Stapleton through a mutual friend in 1975. The two were from the complete opposite sides of the state, and different walks of life - a city boy and small-town girl, but they were a great match. They married on a hot day in July 1979, and had two girls, Katie and Emily. Tom was proud of his family, and although his work required him to be away from home several nights a week on average, he was ever present for the big and small moments in the lives of his girls. Helping coach softball on the weekends, being a timer at the summer swim meets, or helping with math homework over the phone at night. One of his most personal, and proudest accomplishments was his 42 years of sobriety.
In 2003, Tom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. While over the next 23 years the disease would strip him of nearly all his physical abilities and degrade his cognitive function, he never, ever complained. He carried on. He never succumbed to the disease and fought it til the end. He transitioned to skilled nursing care at University Health Lakewood Long Term care in 2021, but even then, his character never went unnoticed by his family, friends and care staff.
Although Tom faced challenges in his life, his attitude never faltered; his spirit was never disabled. He remained an engaging and loving man, full of stories, with a sharp memory and wit.
He is proceeded in death by his father, Fred Raveill, and in-laws Norton and Mellie Stapleton.
He is survived by his wife Jean; children Katie (Dan) Millburn and Emily (Josh) Egley; grandchildren Emmett, Jacob, Alice, William and Dylan. Mother, Barbara Raveill; Siblings Bob (Colleen) Raveill, Mary Ann Raveill, Theresa (Mike) Manselle, Janie (Andrew) Wang, Kathleen Wigington, Pat (Jeannine) Raveill, Tim (Lori) Raveill; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 East 47th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64133, on May 7, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm. Suggested memorials to be directed to Bishop Sullivan Center of Kansas City.
