Tom Fisch

Thomas Joseph Fisch, aged 78, died in the loving arms of his wife, Suzanne Theresa Fisch on Thursday, December 17, 2020. Tom and Suzanne have been married for 55 wonderful years and as Susie always says, “they wouldn’t change a minute of it."

Their long union produced two daughters, Amy and Nancy, and two sons, Craig and Matthew (Kari). These kids gave them nine grandchildren: Justin, Steven, Jessica, Caitlin, Thomas, Roman, Anna Grace, Brady and Madison.

Dad was born in Le Mars, Iowa on June 9, 1942 and attended Gailin Catholic Elementary and High school. He graduated in 1960 and went on to attend Rockhurst College in Kansas City, where he met his wife, became a Rock and Roll Drummer with The Jags and of course was the Director of the Variety Show his Senior year. Tom graduated in 1964.

Thomas will be missed by so many in the Kansas City Community, mostly because he lit up any room he was is in. Tom made you feel special and that feeling lasted for days. Tom was a successful businessman in the medical field, working for Merck, Sharp and Dohme, Critikon and GE for most of his professional life. Always the host with the most, you’d often be greeted at the door with a cocktail and a “have a seat, have a seat.”

Dad was a phenomenal drummer whose name remains in the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There was never a Fisch basement without a drum set in it or a nearby jazz band that Dad didn’t sit in with. All the kids have memories full of drums, music and good times with their Grandad. Many of the Fisch kids have carried on with their Dad’s musical interest (alas, not all of them have talent, sigh.)

Tom used his love of music to sing in the vocal choir at Curé of Ars. He and Suzanne sang with the choir for 40 years and even had the pleasure of singing for The Pope (seriously, The Pope!) in Rome, 2006.

Thomas’ Visitation begins at 10am this Wednesday (12/23) at Curé of Ars Catholic Church (9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206). The Funeral Mass will begin immediately following Visitation.
