

Tony Stuart Love, age 73, of Emporia, Kansas by way of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. He was 73 years old. Tony was born on August 5, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to Margaret and Napoleon Love. He attended Southern Union Missionary Baptist Church where he accepted Christ at an early age. His neighborhood nickname was “Mama Love” because he was so much like his mother. A wonderful, giving, fun loving person. Tony graduated from Northwest High School in 1968. He was a very popular student athlete. He attended Florissant Valley Community College where he met his bride of 49 years, Marilyn Jean Love (who proceeded him in death). He went on to continue his education at Emporia State University. While there he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity (Zeta Delta Chapter). He was a proud Omega man.
Tony chose to stay in Emporia, Kansas to raise his family. He worked as a machinist at Didde Graphic Corporation for many years. In his spare time, you could find him swimming, playing a pickup game of basketball or lifting weights. He also was a beast on the BBQ grill. On weekends his home was the gathering place for friends that were like family.
Tony is survived by his son, Tony Love, Jr. of Lawrence, Kansas; two daughters, Angela Wright (Stephen Wright) of Memphis, Tennessee and Karese Love of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Jalen Wright, Malik Wright, Kalil Wright, Tareq Love, Torey Love, Sariah Love, Samareah Love, Juston Flowers, Kaysha Love, Laikyn Bennett and Allyn Wattree. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn Love, Sr. (Chandra Love), and sister, Rosalind Wells (Timothy Wells, Sr.). Sister, Johnnie Mae Woolridge, and brother, John Bommer, Sr. (Minnie Bommer), preceeded him in death. He loved his nieces and nephews dearly and was a huge presence in each of their lives.
Tony was the definition of LOVE. He was a father figure to many. A loyal friend and loved by all who knew him. We will miss him dearly.
A service and visitation will be held 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Drexel Hall, 3301 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111.
