After completing his education in computer science, Walt had a long and successful career at Bendix/Allied Signal. He was an avid motorcyclist, fisherman and trap shooter, as well as a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Franklin Shipley Sr. and Arvilla Shipley; brother, Clifton Boyd Shipley (Rita).
Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Sally McCabe Shipley, a retired teacher from Shawnee Mission West High School, well known locally as a treasured mentor to many former students. Brother, Norman Jay Shipley (Fern deceased); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Walt’s Celebration of Life will take place at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131 on Saturday, May 25. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Funeral Service in the Chapel of Faith at 11:00 AM.
Burial will take place at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, Kansas. Salina friends who wish to honor Walt’s passing may visit the gravesite after May 28.
