

Wilfrid A. “Jay” Granquist, Jr., 91, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away July 22, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House. Family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 3, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road. Wilfrid Granquist was born November 22, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Wilfrid A., Sr. and Leona (Ellis) Granquist. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army and retired from Bendix Corporation as a metallurgical engineer. Jay was a member of St. Thomas More Church since 1968 and an avid volunteer. He gave many hours to Seton Center, St. Joseph Hospital, Share the Harvest and Red Bridge Lions Club. He served as President of Klapmeyer Estates Homes Association and was a member of Save the Connie. In 2005 Jay received the Lieutenant Governor’s Senior Service award. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years,Margaret Granquist in 2003, and half-sister Kathleen Granquist. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn Watson and husband Robert of Overland Park, Kansas; son John Granquist and wife Joy of Hockessin, Delaware; daughter Joyce Holland of Kansas City, Missouri and his eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his half-sister Nancy Granquist of Utah and half-brother Jim Granquist and wife Rhonda of Midvale, Utah.
