

William Thomas Carney, Jr., 58, passed peacefully on January 17, 2011, at his home in Stanley, Kansas, with his wife of nine years, Terry, by his side. Bill was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and as part of a military family, he grew up at various Army bases until they settled in St. Louis in the 1970s. Prior to 2001, Bill lived in Webster Groves, Missouri. He worked at Southwestern Bell for more than 25 years, advancing from one of the first male phone operators to management. He retired in 1997. Bill loved playing golf, fishing and spending time with his family. He loved his pets dearly and will be most acutely missed by his buddy Max, a 7-lb. Yorkie-Poo. Bill was a volunteer for SERTOMA in St. Louis and volunteered at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City for several years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Alfreida Jaworek and Lt. Col. William T. Carney, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Terry Culbertson Carney; his son, Billy Carney of St. Louis; his stepchildren, Annie Culbertson Carolla of Dallas, Katie Culbertson Janes of K.C, and Chris Culbertson of Overland Park; and three grandchildren who were the light of his life, Kyra and Isabelle Janes, and Carson Carolla. Bill’s loving sisters and brothers-in-law are Kathleen and John Bateman of Clarksville, Missouri, and Trish and Michael Bennett of St. Louis. He is survived by six nieces and nephews, and five great nieces and nephews. Bill’s loving family sustained him through years of the medical challenges he endured. He is now in the Lord’s loving arms. Visitation will be at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, on Wednesday, January 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 20th.
