William (Bill) Spencer Hall, 64, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away May 30, 2011 in Treasure Island, Florida after a short battle with brain cancer. Bill was born on April 27, 1947 in Kansas City Missouri to The Reverend William Bryant and Erma Irene Hall. He had one sister, Nancy. Bill’s father served the Presbyterian Church and there were many places they called home: Independence, Missouri; Salina, Kansas; Henderson, Kentucky; and Boonville, Missouri.
Bill spent his college years at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, graduating in 1969 with a BA in History and Political Science. In the year following he taught school and then enlisted in the Army Reserves. He was medically discharged and moved to Kansas City, Missouri to begin work as a Juvenile Placement Officer and a Group Home Manager for the Missouri Correction System. It is here that he met the love of his life, Debra Colleen Peelle in 1973.
Bill and Debbie were married at their home in Kansas City on December 4, 1976. Thirty-four years later they remained committed to one another and the best of friends, even working together for over 30 years at the Thrifty Nickel – American Classifieds. He adopted her daughters Jennifer Peel and Patricia Butcher and took them in as his own. The family often traveled together across the country and overseas learning something new with each trip. For his family his greatest accomplishment was that of a solid guiding hand through good times and bad, encompassing his unwavering belief in self-discipline, respect for others, and to always lending a helping hand. His greatest disappointment is leaving his wife and family behind so suddenly and not being able to grow old with Debbie, watching his grandchildren graduate and grow into adults.
Bill’s second family was the Masonic body, which he faithfully served through the years. His service began on July 9, 1968 at the Cooper Lodge in Boonville, Missouri. His home lodge is Temple-Gate and dual membership with Independence. He served as Master to Temple Gate. He was very active in many York Rite Bodies of the Masonic Lodge and Served as Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of the State of Missouri.
Bill is survived by: his wife Debbie; two daughters Jennifer Shook, Patricia Wimmer and her spouse Derek Wimmer; five grand-children, Maxwell Shook; Bryant, Spencer, Dorothy and Nancy Wimmer. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, and stepson Ryan.
His family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support, as well as a special thank you to the caregivers from Hospice in Florida and St. Lukes Hospice in Kansas City.
