He was born April 29, 1922 in Kansas City, MO to Lee and Jean Stuck. His great love of music was nurtured by his parents through piano lessons he started while in grade school and continued into high school. He graduated from Westport High School and planned to pursue a major in music. His plans were interrupted by the draft for World War II.
He served in the United States Army in Germany as part of the Counter Intelligence Corps, and continued his service after returning home, reaching the rank of Major in the Unites States Army Reserves. He valued his service to his country and his 31 year career with the Army. While serving in Germany, he developed a command of foreign languages and majored in German with a minor in music at the University of Kansas, where he graduated with honors after the war.
Bill started his 47 year career in sales administration with Sealright, Inc., where he met his “dearest and best” wife of 60 years, Kathryn Marie Jones.
His acceptance of Jesus Christ as his savior in 1953 was the highlight of his life and he freely witnessed and shared his faith with others. He was a devoted member of Colonial Presbyterian Church, enjoyed singing in the choir and was actively involved in the Prime Timers group. He continued playing the piano all his life and was a self-taught piano tuner, which was his side business and hobby.
He is survived by his three children: Marcia Kay (Stuck) Hamilton (Dennis) of Overland Park, Kansas, Laura Lee (Stuck) Southwick of Leawood, Kansas and David Andrew Stuck (Bonnie) of Prairie Village, Kansas. Bill also took great pride in his six grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Larson.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and will be followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 8th at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64114.
Following the service, a reception for family and friends will be held in the Fellowship Hall. The committal with military honors will be at 1:30 PM at the Faith Mausoleum in Mount Moriah Cemetery. The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff, doctors and nurses at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri who provided great care, support and companionship to him in the final years of his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the City Union Mission, 1100 East 11th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64106 or University of Kansas School of Music, Murphy Hall, Room 460, 1530 Naismith Drive, Lawrence, Kansas 66045.
