Wilma was born on May 11, 1928 to Pearl and Edgar Oyler in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1946. On December 19, 1947 she married the love of her life Willis Boyd Shockley, and they were married 73 years until he died in 2020.
She was welcomed by her husband Boyd, her sons Steve & Barry & son-in-law Mike, grandson Kris, and countless loved ones. She lived a beautiful & full life. She spoke often about how blessed she was and how loved she felt by so many people.
Grandma Wilma was the most contagiously kind & joyful person you could ever meet. She loved with her whole heart, and taught us the importance of being anchored in faith & family. And food. She was famous for her sweet tooth and cooking and baking skills. And her infectious smile, sense of humor, and quick wit. Grandma Wilma loved gardening, planting flowers and she made sure to take the time to enjoy them. She was always telling her grandchildren to stop and smell the flowers too.
Grandma’s faith in God was the foundation of her home, her family and her life, even when she experienced painful losses and hardship. She attended and served at the Fellowship Church of Greenwood, Missouri for forty-five years with her husband. She cherished her church family and they made sure she felt loved and supported. She talked often about how ready she was to be with God, and with her husband, and sons.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Alexander, her grandchildren Crystal (Wyatt) Durgan, Spring Bradley, Joseph Shockley, Tim (Sara) Alexander, Aaron Shockley, Joy Huntington, our baby girl Ashley Rinear (Resley), Scott (Stephanie) Olander, Randy Rinear, and Ronnie Rinear. She is also survived by great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren in Alaska, Missouri, Kansas, and Arizona.
We honor her legacy of abundant kindness, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. We will also remember to take time to smell the flowers, as she often encouraged.
A visitation will take place at Greenwood Fellowship Church (1601 W Main St, Greenwood, MO 64034) from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. With a funeral to follow at 10:00 AM.
A graveside will conclude at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO) at 12:00 PM.
