Adeline (Lynn) Cox was born on the island of Trinidad to Kenneth and Agatha Gill, on October 23, 1940. She was an only child for a few years, after which she became a big sister to her six siblings. This is where her caring and love for children originated.
In Trinidad, she completed her education and worked in various fields (mattress making, pressing records, and nannying, etc.) prior to moving to New York. In pursuit of the American dream, she began her banking career in Manhattan. Shortly after, she married Kelvin Cox (predeceased) and the family moved to Baytown Texas, where she accepted a job in Macy's children’s department. This allowed her to socialize and fully spoil the kids who shopped with their parents.
She designated a special wall in her home with photos of her children (Sherwayne and wife Judith, Sharan and husband Keith, Patricia), grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other children in her life. Every child who visited her home left with a memorabilia, a toy, or clothing.
Her caring outreach included taking calls before dawn from friends and family reaching out for support, or just a listening ear. This was especially important because family have discovered their destinies in various locations: Caribbean, New York, Florida, United Kingdom, etc.
On Sundays, you could find her at Trinity Tabernacle, where she was a member for almost 40 years. She would be dressed in everything flowered because that was her favorite clothing pattern.
In all she did, she never lost sight of her culture: enjoying Caribbean music and dancing. Just turn on the music and she was ready to dance. After more than 30 years of working for Macy’s, our mom finally retired for a second time and moved to the Katy area to be closer to family. Before settling into retirement, she vacationed in a few countries, of which Hawaii was her favorite. In her retirement, she had the time to focus fully on the next generation, her grandchildren, (Kyna, Karla, Devon, and Liselle) and 11 great grandchildren.
On October 12, 2022, she passed away at home in the arms of her family. As she would often say, "this is the day the Lord has made....."
