I have been calling Ko for a few months with no answer.  So I googled him and found out he died in March.  Damn it! 
I met Ko when he was working at Rockefellers on Washington Ave in the  Heights.  That man was a marketing genius!  I signned up for the "Package Deal" he devised.  I saw so many great bands that way, BB King, Bo Diddley, Johnny Winter, Jr Walker, Greg Allman, David Crosby's first gig out of prison!  Ko was integral in my musical continuing education.  He and I went fishing a time or 2 as well.  The Rockefellers shows were in the mid 80's, close to 35 yrs ago.  I kept in touch after moving to Austin in 1990.  He was a great father, devoted husband and  damn good friend.   I can't believe he is gone!   I just called his number agian to hear his voice and leave a msg for the family.  God Bless you and may Ko rest in peace and rise in glory.


Ko was a true friend to me and I often think about him. 
He and I worked together at Z-Rock 106.9 and instantly became friends. 
We partied together, a lot lol and camped and fished too. 
I wished I had spent more time together as he and I would talk about growing old together. 
I miss my brother and will always remember the great times we had together. 
Ko left behind a ton of friends that still love and think about him.

Last night I had a dream about my dear brother -Ko. He just opened the car door, in my dream and got in the passenger side. I tried to act like things were normal but then I just had to stop, give him a big hug and exclaim, “You’re here!” Without missing a beat, he gave me that snarky Ko charm and said, yeah, I’m here. I was gone for a minute, but I’m back , then proceeded to tell me where to go, as he had some errands to do... and I happily drove... LOL! Ko Jenkins you were a true big brother, mentor, teacher, brainiac, cusser... lol... EVERYTHING great. I will remember how deeply you loved your life and your son and just how in awe I was and still am of you. You were a true unicorn and I was blessed to have you in my life. I didn’t get to say goodbye, but that was never part of the plan. You will forever be an inspiration. Blessings to the Jenkins family. Thank you for sharing him.

1st it was Yo (16 years ago) and now Ko. I love both these brothers. Even though we didn’t spend that much time together after we all moved from Milwaukee. One thing was for certain. We loved each other with our hearts and that was genuine. Ko, was a beautiful spirit, his heart was made of gold, he was funny, he was an entrepreneur, creative, smart, husband, father, brother, uncle, son, cousin, and he could be wild and loose (which I loved about this dude). Brah, we were supposed to grow old together like our pops and our uncles. The Jenkins men enjoying life to the fullest. I’m writing this statement in tears but once you saw your pops (uncle E), mom (aunt Jean), and Yo. I knew, we had no chance here on earth on you coming back to us.
I love you bro and will miss you dearly. My heart goes out to Rhonda and your sons. Val and I love you guys with all our hearts.

Koichi was my cousin. We had not seen each other since we were children. My grandmother, Gertrude Brown, was his great- aunt.

I remember Koichi and Yoshi coming over to our house on 13th Street in Milwaukee when we were kids.

My prayers go out to his wife and children and my cousins.

Distance and the deaths of older family members caused us to lose touch but you all remain in my memories.

My heart is so heavy right now! I’m really stunned to learn of the recent passing of my cousin/good friend,  Koichi! We became close friends when he and his father first started coming to take care of family property in my hometown in MS! He was so easy to get to know. We enjoyed each other’s company! I last spoke with him at length last year and we reminisced about the first time I ever went fishing was with him! I know his smiling face will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. 
My deepest and sincere condolences to Rhonda and the wonderful young men she and Ko raised!

Emorrie Koichi “Ko” Jenkins of Katy, Texas, passed away in Houston on March 13, 2020.  He was a loving husband to Rhonda and proud father of sons Jason and Jeremy.  Ko was a beloved brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and Gruncle Ko.  He was a business owner, an avid fisherman, hunter and musician.  Koichi was so full of life and laughter, and will be missed by his family and many friends.

I was heartbroken to hear about Ko's passing.  He and I go back to the early 90's when we worked together at the Houston Press.  Komania later became  my client with Effectv, a Comcast Company.  If you didn't what to know the truth, Ko was not the person to ask.  He was always honest and forthright and never failed to bust my chops when I failed to meet his expectations. Back in the day, he told me he was black and said you don't look black to me. He reiterated, by father is black. I said ok, be black if you want to. Recently, he asked me to take him to a soul food restaurant. He wanted some chitterlings. Not trusting a restaurant and how they cleaned and cooked chitterlings, I  got my brother in law to cook for him. True to his nature, he said they were okay. I guess they did not taste like what he was used to having.   I will miss you.  Prayer of comfort lifted for the family during this difficult time of grief.

Wow I can’t believe you’re gone, we just spoke the other day. I miss you already, so I can’t  image what life is going to be without you. 

I remember meeting you for the first time at Z-Rock 106.9. 
We instantly became friends, heck I remember our first conversation. You were Ko then and you were KOMANIA 
until you passed. 
No one knows that I was the guy that coined that phrase and you said that you loved it and from that day you were KOMANIA!!

You were the one that I could count on, I hoped you felt the same way about me. In my own way I’ve always felt we had a special bond. Knowing what each other’s thoughts were. 

What can I say, you were the dude! You always had the most unique style, hell between us we had our own language, things that we would only say to each other. 
 You were so much to me that most people will never know. Folks always say, tell people what they mean to you before they’re gone. 
I’m sure you knew as we would always tell each other what was going on in our lives, we kept it on the real and I appreciated that about you. 

My friend, my buddy the guy I could always count on. I know, I’ve said that already but it’s true. 
We had some great times together and I’ll make sure to make some memories with your boys. 
Rhonda and the boys were you’re biggest priorities, you were one of the proudest dads, boy you would light up when you talked about them. 

I’ll remind them about what a great guy you were before they were even a twinkle in yours and Rhonda's eyes!

I first met Ko when I started Coaching Jason in 9U soccer.  We were at practice for the first time and we finished practice after about two hours and Jason ran over to his dad and gulped down a bunch of red Gatorade.  Ko sat for a few minutes and told Jason you better not drink to much we are getting ready to see how good of a coach she is going to be.  He continued to drink and a few minutes later I called the boys over to run suicides.  We ran and ran and then Jason puked 🤮.  Ko stated ok she’s good to go.  They were on my team until high school soccer started.  Ko was always willing to make my job easier especially when it came to sponsoring our team which was one of the harder things to do when coaching.   My son Zach had many conversations with Ko about sports when the group would hang out at their house.  He told me he can still picture Ko standing and looking at them like what the hell are you guys doing?  He always made them laugh. He will be dearly missed.  Sending our love and prayers to Rhonda and the boys.  

I am saddened by the passing of my Uncle Koichi and have always considered him more of an older brother since we aren’t that far off in age. I always looked to my uncle for guidance and experience since I was young. He was one of my biggest inspirations for wanting to become a musician, as I remember him taking me to his band rehearsals as well as some of his shows back in the day. I observed how he built a good life down in Houston and used that as a motivation to do the same in Los Angeles. More than anything, my uncle demonstrated what it meant to be a good father/husband in the way he loved and took care of his family. 

We will miss all of the laughs and good times we had with Ko and cherish the time we had with him here on earth. May he rest well and watch over us. Until we meet again Unc. We love you.

Koichi ("Ko") was my younger brother.  He was a karate black belt when he was only 14.  Ko loved to fish and hunt.  Ko loved his wife, Rhonda and his two sons, Jason and Jeremy.  He was much loved by his immediate and extended family, and will be missed beyond measure.  His other sister, Stephanie, and niece, Michelle, as well as nephews Terence, Freddie and Aleron, along with brother-in-law, Waine and nephew-in-law, Marco, will miss him terribly.

There is a great hole in our lives without our brother, uncle, and Gruncle (great uncle) Ko to Kofi, Kai, Hailie and Kenzo.
