Major Franklin Delano Chambers ended his journey from Cross Roads, Tennessee through a long and exciting life on February 28, 2019 surrounded by his family in Houston, Texas. He was 86. His wife of 63 years, Helen L. Chambers, walked nearly every step of that journey with him.
Franklin Delano Chambers grew up with big dreams on a small farm in Middle Tennessee. He worked throughout his life to fulfill those dreams for his family and himself and never stopped dreaming or working. A musical prodigy, he went to Middle Tennessee State Teacher's College on a trumpet scholarship, until he tested into the Air Force Cadet's program, the predecessor to the Air Force Academy. He graduated as an officer and married Helen L. Chambers shortly thereafter on December 31, 1955. He became a specialist in polar navigation at the height of the Cold War, calculating polar runs from Iceland and Greenland with a slide rule and gyroscope. He ultimately rose to the rank of Major. But one career was not enough for Frank. While in the Air National Guard, he obtained an engineering degree from the University of Tennessee and later an MBA from the University of Louisville, while working full time and helping to raise his children. He was a successful entrepreneur and builder in Madisonville, Ky. who built over 100 commercial structures in a three state area. In "retirement", he became a Certified Financial Planner and broker. He still had clients until he was 81, and actively traded stocks and options until his last day.
Frank Chambers is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen L. Chambers who supported him throughout his career and worked alongside him during his years in the construction industry. He is survived by his children Sandra Lea and Jeffrey Wayne and his daughter-in-law Amanda Chambers. A favorite life role for him was as "Grandpa" to his grandchildren, Hunter, Harris, Colby and Morgan all of whom survive their grandpa and miss him dearly.
