
Dr. Geoffrey Price was born on May 26, 1953 in LaMarque, TX to parents Jerry L. Price and Florene (Koeninger) Price. Geof was quick to say that Texas City, TX was his hometown and the hospital just happened to be in the neighboring city of LaMarque.
Geoffrey grew up learning to fish and hunt and became passionate about technical subjects, especially mathematics and chemistry, during junior high school and high school. He was encouraged by his father to pursue chemical engineering by showing him the chemical facility where his father worked as a chemical engineer. Geof graduated with his BS in Chemical Engineering from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX in 1975, magna cum laude. Geof applied for and won a research assistantship at Rice University in Houston, TX and finished his PhD in 1979. His research focused on tellurium loaded zeolites.
In the spring of 1979, Dr. Geof began his academic career at Louisiana State University (LSU) earning tenure in 1984 and full professorship in 1992. In 2000, he became chairman of the ChE department at the University of Tulsa, a position he held for 20 years. During his career, Geoffrey earned two United States Patents for his work in Gallium and Copper containing Zeolite Catalysts. He was also a part of numerous other patents and patent applications in both the US and UK. Geoffrey also published a thermodynamics textbook aimed at chemical engineering undergraduates and several joke and story books.
Geoffrey retired to Fulshear, TX in 2021 where he was able to spend time hunting, fishing, and woodworking with his wife, Judy, sons, Jerry and David, and grandchildren, Nolan, Lucy, Emily, Thomas, and Natalie.
Geoffrey was taken home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2026 in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Judy of Fulshear, TX, sons Jerry Price II and his wife Amber of Richmond, Texas, and David Price and his wife Cayli of Katy, Texas, grandchildren Nolan, Emily, Natalie, Lucy, and Thomas, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also surviving is one brother Wade Price and his wife Dorothy. Geoffrey was preceded in death by his son Joseph F. Price and brothers Judson and Bradley. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Union Chappel, 8201 Harris St., Fulshear, Texas 77441.
