

Helen is survived by her children and their families, Ronald Pounds (married to Valerie Pounds and their 3 children and families), Barbara Garner (married to Thomas Garner with their 2 children and families), Carolyn Caffey (married to Jay Caffey with her two children and families), the children and grandchildren of Susan Peters, her brother, C. J. Pettit, Jr., and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents: C.J. and Edith Pettit, her husband: Earl V. Mead, brothers: Aubrey, Robert, and Ralph Pettit, and her daughter: Susan Peters.
Helen was born on February 16th, 1923 in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Reagan High School and attended business school. Helen married Eldon Lee Pounds and had their son Ronald Lee Pounds in 1945. In 1953, she married Earl V. Mead who had 2 daughters, Barbara and Carolyn, and then together Helen and Earl had a daughter, Susan. Helen was blessed with good friends during her life, and one who made her heart very happy and she loved very much, Richard Holmes.
Helen retired her business career as a bookkeeper at the age of 83 with Continental Airlines. Helen's 4 children, and her 9 - grandchildren, 17 - great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, who all called her Nana, will always remember her as kind, patient, and supportive. She always shared in everyone's life whether it was a happy moment or a time of need. Being strong in her faith, she would keep you in her prayers. For Helen it was always about you, not herself.
Helen had a talent for crocheting, knitting, crafts (especially ceramics), piano playing, and the support of all family members. She was generous with her heart and passionate about dancing, traveling, and enjoyed her family and friends. She was a practicing Christian, and was a member of Chapel Wood Methodist while in Houston and then the First United Methodist Church in Katy, Texas once she moved to Katy. Helen spent most of her life in Houston, Texas, moving around a few years with her first husband, then coming back to Houston. She moved to Carriage Inn in Katy, Texas in 2010, where she was very happy.
A funeral is scheduled for December 24th at Katy Funeral Home (visitation at 9:00 am and service at 10:00 am) with a graveside burial directly following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Helens's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Spanish Meadows Skilled Nursing and Rehab for their care.
