Jim was born in Montreal, Quebec to Veronica Moran and John James Morrison on October 11, 1953, the fifth child of seven siblings. “Jimmy”, as his family called him, developed a passion for lifelong learning at an early age, the youngest in his class. He was a dedicated student “with his nose in a book” and his love for rocks and science lead him to complete his degree in Geology. He graduated with First Class Honors from McGill University In Canada at the age of 21. Following graduation he accepted a position with Shell Oil in Calgary, Alberta thus beginning his career of 38 years as a Petrophysical Engineer.
He met Karen while on training with Shell in Houston and they married in June 1978. Together, they enjoyed life exploring western Canada before transferring to Louisiana in 1983 to experience the wonderful culture and food of New Orleans. Jim became a father in 1984 when Sheila arrived, followed by Daniel in 1988. Jim loved being a father and took every opportunity to foster their interest for any activity they chose to pursue. Moving to Texas brought new opportunities and stability. Living in Cinco Ranch for over 30 years has lead to the richness of having shared memories together with family, friends, and coworkers.
In his retirement Jim loved to read, travel, research his family ancestry and watch sports, with hockey being his lifelong game of choice. He continued to love discussions of history, science, politics and travel adventures. Family visits and celebrations brought joy to him throughout his life. Jim will be forever missed by those who knew him and loved him.
Jim is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Sheila, her husband Charles, newborn grandson James, and son Daniel, his wife Micaela and grandson Avi. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Anthony and Margaret. Jim is survived by siblings, Bernie, Norman, Mary and Terri along with nieces, nephews and cousins on the Morrison side.
