He was born in Logansport, Indiana, a son of the late William and Ferne Mitchell.
Larry was a patriot and a proud retired member of the U.S. National Guard. He was a man of action with high proficiency and skill in multiple lifelong interests. In addition, he dedicated a large part of his adult life working for the Knights of Columbus, where he worked his way up through the ranks to the Head of the Membership Department. Larry was an avid and lifelong muscle car enthusiast, with a passion for the American made sports/muscle cars. He was a licensed pilot with countless flight hours to his name. Later in life, he also mastered parachuting and had accumulated over 6,000 single and tandem jumps over the years.
Following his retirement from the Knights of Columbus in Connecticut, he and his wife of over 23 years, moved to Richmond, TX, where they became members of the St. Faustina Catholic Church, in Fulshear, TX.
Larry was a private person, however, he frequently mentioned to those closest to him, how much he enjoyed retirement, the local and the church communities and his new life in Texas. As a lifelong baseball fan, he quickly became a Houston Astros fan and was thrilled with their recent success. He was at peace, enjoyed working on various home projects, following his baseball team and spending time with his loved ones.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Maria (Terry) Mitchell; children: Laura Mitchell Garofoli, Cynthia Mitchell Rickman, Caroline Mirth and Michael O’Donnell; and grandchildren: Sean, Natalie, Andrew and Benjamin. He also leaves extended family and friends in Indiana and in Connecticut, his long-time home state before retiring to Texas.
