Lauren was born in Minneapolis at the dawn of the new millennium as the beloved daughter of Tracy and Rich Schuller on December 20, 2000. She moved to Houston with her parents in 2009.
A new freshman at Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress, Texas, Lauren was excited to begin her high school career this year and easily found herself among a great group of friends. She was particularly excited about the increased independence of high school and the new opportunities she could explore.
Lauren especially enjoyed creative activities like art, painting, singing, and most recently, filmmaking. In fact, just last weekend, she and a group of friends spent the night making a short film in her current favorite genre: horror. She had even recently talked of becoming a film director when she grew up, and even has a YouTube channel with 5,000 subscribers. She started it about two years ago by making little videos and creating stories with her Breyer horses. And almost every Christmas for about six years, Lauren created little shows for her parents where she would sing carols as her gift to them.
Lauren and her mom shared affection for many hobbies, including horseback riding, which Lauren began when she was five. And after Lauren was diagnosed with diabetes, her parents bought her Sophia, a Shire Draft Horse that lives at her mom’s home. They also went crazy each Halloween, creating matching, over-the-top, mother-daughter Halloween costumes like Dorothy and the Wicked Witch. One year, Lauren even won the top prize at a Halloween costume contest as Marie Antoinette. And if Lauren ever thought that her mom wasn’t going to dress up with her, she’d say she wasn’t going out trick-or–treating if Tracy wasn’t going to dress up too. She and her dad’s Halloween tradition was to go to local haunted houses.
In middle school, Lauren also had her heart set on being a cheerleader in 10th grade, and even went to a National Cheerleading competition in Dallas. She also has travelled extensively and loved going to concerts, and most recently went to Taylor Swift just last week.
A strong student, Lauren and her dad had worked together since middle school to monitor and track her academic progress and chart a course for success, which kept her on the honor roll since 7th grade.
Lauren leaves behind many who love her and will miss her, including her mom and dad, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and many, many friends. Our hearts are forever broken with the loss of our dear Lauren. Thank you for sharing this day with us. It means a lot.
Tracy and Rich chose to donate her organs to help others. They ask that, in lieu of flowers, people make donations to the American Diabetes Association (http://diabetes.org/).
