Philip Cusimano was born in Gadsden, Alabama and moved with his family to New Orleans during his junior high years, a city that would forever hold a special place in his heart. He graduated from Fortier High School in 1968 and later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston in May of 1979.
On April 15, 1976, in Houston, Texas, Philip married the love of his life, Cathy Sells. Together they built a marriage rooted in devotion, laughter, family traditions, and unwavering partnership.
Philip built a respected career as a wine broker, combining his love of people, teaching, and fine wine into a profession that suited him perfectly. Most every year for quite a while now, Philip has hosted an open house at our condo in New Orleans, cooking his famous spaghetti, celebrating St Joseph’s day, and attending the parade. It had become a popular, well known event. He loved cooking his spaghetti and playing the host. In addition, for many years, he volunteered at the Houston Italian Festival, organizing the Taste of Italy section, where he shared his knowledge of wine and invited others to do the same. Teaching others about wine was not simply work to him; it was an extension of his hospitality.
He looked forward to time spent grilling on the back porch and listening to music with family. His strength and humor brought comfort, and his presence anchored those who loved him.
Philip was preceded in death by his father, Gri Cusimano; his mother, Janette Suttles Cusimano; and his brother, Mathew Cusimano.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy Cusimano; his children, Kelly Gri Cusimano (Jenn), Stacey Janette Cusimano-Chapman (Darryl), Jeffrey Moore Cusimano, and Andrew Philip Cusimano; and his cherished grandchildren, Kinley Grace, Lila Joy, Kylan Philip Cusimano, and Presley Ann Chapman. He is also survived by his sister, Jennifer Orlando (George); his brother, Gregory Cusimano (Peggy); his sister in law, Anne Cusimano; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A funeral Mass will be held at St James Catholic Church in Gadsden, Alabama on March 7, 2026
