Raquel was born in the town of Tenamaxtlan, Jalisco in Mexico. She was the eldest daughter of Guadalupe and Ampara Gonzalez.
She spent her childhood growing up in a small town with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She loved singing and dancing and music as well as attending the Charreras and Bull Fighting. One year Raquel was crowned Reyna de Charros, and even rode a horse in the parades. Her father enjoyed watching her dance the Zon de la Negra, which he loved. She became a schoolteacher in her hometown. She loved reading, and continued that love throughout her lifetime. She wrote poetry full of love, passion and deep emotions
Looking for a better life, she came to Northern Mexico looking for work. She lived at her uncle and aunts home during this time.
This is where she met Manuel Morones, our father; they dated for a month and a half before they married. My dad said it was love at first sight. After marrying, they moved to San Fernando, California, where dad worked. They would raise their family in the San Fernando Valley, moving to Sun Valley, California in 1973. They had 5 children; three daughters and two sons.
Raquel would move to Houston, Texas with her husband in 2006 to retire. She wanted to be closer to her brothers and sisters, many of whom had emigrated here.
Mom loved sewing and crafts. She made clothes for us growing up and would make our Halloween costumes. She later made fabric covered photo albums for all our weddings and the births of her grandchildren and friends. She sewed fabric frames, decorative pillows and keepsake boxes, she would sell or give away as gifts.
Our Mom was a strong Christian woman, accepting the Lord in 1971 as a Seventh day Adventist. We would go to church as a family and always had bible study and prayed as a family. She filled her home with love, music, family and food. This is the legacy that she has left behind for her children and loved ones. God, Family, Music and Food.
