Shirley Domingue was born in Spurger Texas and grew up in Fred Texas. She graduated from Spurger High School and married her high school sweetheart. They had two children, Tonya and Jim, and she travelled around Texas and Louisiana raising her family and following the next workover rig during the oil boom in the 1950s and 1960s.
She worked a variety of jobs but found her calling as a secretary working for Pasadena delivery service. While working there, she raised her third child, Tom, as a single mom. She was known to be able to stretch a penny into a dollar.
Shirley never met a stranger and made friends easily, sitting on a bench at Wal-Mart or with life-long friends across two States and multiple residences. She was always ready for a chat, that is, unless she had her eyebrow raised and needed you to listen to her about something important.
She loved cooking and inspired her children to cook. She loved Mexican food, stuffed crab, fried shrimp, good gumbo, a Sunday roast stuffed with garlic, snacking on chips and dips (aka cheeps and deeups) and toward the end of her life ice cream and anything sweet.
She loved sewing and crocheting, which she continued right up until her passing. She crocheted items and made countless numbers of blankets for family members and friends. Mom loved to give; sometimes it was words, sometimes food, sometimes sewn /crocheted items but in all cases, she always gave you her love.
Shirley attending several churches but found her final church home at Central Baptist in Katy. She attended Services and Sunday School until she could no longer drive and then followed the Services every Sunday on her phone, unless that dern thang wouldn’t work.
