Allen was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on January 26, 1934 to parents J.D. Harrell and Edna (Barber) Harrell. He had two brothers Dan Harrell and Rufus Harrell and one sister Onjel Harrell Holt.
Allen was the quarterback on his high school football team. The coach always said if he had a team full of Bubba Harrells then they would win the championship every year. Allen had a great attitude and an impeccable work ethic.
Allen served in our great country's military, The United States Army from 1954-1956.
Allen and Carole were married on August 24,1957 in Attapulgus, Georgia.
Our parents had a wonderful love affair that lasted more than 50 years and had 5 children; Angela, Jana, Allen Jr., Wendy and Clint.
He was a great furniture salesman and owned three furniture stores, one mattress store and one gift boutique over the years. When he worked for other companies he was often the top guy in sales and in profit. He loved competition and sales. Allen was the very first salesman to sell a million dollars in one year for The Roomstore. One of his best years he sold 1.45 million and led the company for 10 years.
Allen raised his children in the church and taught us how important it was to be a part of God's work here on earth.
His quiver was indeed full. He was called Dad by 5 and Poppy by 19. Allen has 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He had all these grands for all these years and he only had to spank one of them and you know who you are. I'm pretty sure Poppy got in trouble with Grandmother for doing it, too.
There are cousins too numerous to mention, but there are more than one who looked to him for fatherly advice and sometimes even got fatherly intervention.
We learned kindness, loyalty, work ethics, honesty, competitiveness and how to love all from our parents.
We love and honor them both at this time of our great loss.
Their legacy will live on through their children and extended family.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, his three siblings and his loving wife Carole.
Those left with cherished memories are his children Allen Harrell Jr., Wendy Powell, Clint Harrell, Angela Taylor and husband Stephen, Jana Summer and husband Layne, grandchildren: Spencer Taylor, Travis Taylor, Adam Taylor, Emily Yoder, Mason Sumner, Daylen Powell, Ramsey Powell, Alexis Harrell, Andrew Harrell and Aiden Harrell, great grandchildren; Aubrey, Avery, Evan, Sienna, Emmaline, Everett, Jackson, Arianna and Eli along with a host of other beloved family and friends who will also miss him dearly.
The burial service of Allen Harrell will be a private gathering for the family due to Covid-19.
