Carolyn "Connie" McAnney Reade

Carolyn "Connie" McAnney Reade passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026. Born on Oct 30 1937 in Randolph VT to parents Raymond and Otelia (Jacobson) Smith, Connie graduated from Randolph High School and Sheldon Beauty Academy in Burlington VT.

She spent her childhood on the family farm in Bethel VT alongside her 2 brothers and 3 sisters, and 3 cousins who also lived there. After finishing beauty school, she moved to Keene NH where she was married and her two sons were born. She worked diligently as the sole provider for her family, raising her sons, and eventually becoming the owner of Guys & Gals Salon.

In 1986 she married William Reade, and then retired years later to Fort Chiswell Virginia. They both were involved in volunteering at the local food pantry, and spent time golfing and traveling together.

She returned to Keene, NH in 2006 where she was able to enjoy golfing at Bretwood Golf Course, and take great care in her garden, growing varieties of summer vegetables. In 2016, she moved to Marlborough, NH where she walked regularly and enjoyed views of Mt Monadnock, and found joy in the welcoming, friendly neighborhood community. Connie had a gentle spirit and a deep love for animals, often found in the company of the family cat and dogs.

She is survived by her sons, Steve McAnney and wife Carolyn of Marlborough, NH, and Neil McAnney and wife Dana of Huntington, MD, her three granddaughters Taylor, Alaina, and Tori, her step-children, Donna Kingsbury Young of Pittsburg NH and John Reade of Greenville TN. And several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her grandnephew Zack Zerbe and husband JC Hatosy.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents Raymond and Otelia, her brothers Raymond Smith Jr and Theron Smith, and her sisters Doris Michaud, Barbara Wright, and Lois Lacount.

At Connie's request, no services will be held, but we invite you to privately celebrate her memory.
