He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, February 10, 1951, the son of Margaret Ann (Mershon) and Edmund Francis Bard III. He grew up in Oklahoma and Houston, Texas.
He attended Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas, and completed three years at Texas A&M before leaving to join the Green Berets in 1969, where he served in the Special Forces until August 1975.
For many years Ed pursued various careers before finding his calling in the medical field. He graduated from the New Hampshire Technical College with an Associates Degree in Nursing in 1991. For over nineteen years, he has worked as a registered nurse at the Springfield Hospital in Springfield, VT.
Ed lived in Walpole for 29 years and loved the snow, the woods and the live free or die spirit. He enjoyed walking his dogs, driving his convertible, taking care of his yard and harassing liberal Democrats.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty C. (Porter) Bard of Walple; a son, Edmund F. Bard V, and his wife, Jenna Bard of Cumberland, RI; daughters, Margaret A. Bard and Katherine Bard, both of Walpole; a grandson, Mason Bard; and a sister, Dorothy Mayer of San Angelo, TX. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Bard, of Houston, TX.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10:00AM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Burial in the Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport, MA, will be private. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Foley Funeral Home.
