

Henry C. "Hank" Memmesheimer, Jr. passed away on December 8, 2025, in Keene, New Hampshire at the age of 86. Born on March 15, 1939, in Great Neck, New York, Hank lived a life of service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to those around him.
Throughout his life, Hank embodied the spirit of hard work and selflessness. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and continued that legacy of service in civilian life through a variety of roles that touched countless lives.
After moving to Keene in 1972, Hank joined the City of Keene Fire Department on July 1, 1972, and was permanently promoted to a full-time member on May 20, 1973. He retired as a firefighter on January 1, 1998. Hank also worked at The Cheshire Oil Company for several years. His work was more than just a job; it was an extension of his dedication to his family and community.
Hank’s greatest joy came from caring for his family and friends. He found purpose not only in his profession but also in the everyday acts of love and support he offered. His devotion to family was evident in every aspect of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne (Hastings) Memmesheimer; his children, Henry C. “Chuck” Memmesheimer III and his wife Kim of Lee, N.H., Chris Memmesheimer and his wife Christine Li of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Gretchen Comerford and her husband Richard of Marlborough, N.H.; his grandchildren, Britta Memmesheimer, Garrett Almstrom, Katie Comerford, Adam Memmesheimer, Derek Memmesheimer, Graham Memmesheimer, Jon Comerford, and Ashlyn Comerford. Extended family includes brother-in-law Stephen Hastings and his daughter Heather Bishopric and brother-in-law Tom Hastings, his wife Karen, and their children Stephanie and Timothy.
Hank’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his generosity and tireless spirit. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived.
A celebration of life and visitation for Hank will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Members of the Keene Fire Department will form an honor guard in honor of Hank’s service to the city. Words of remembrance will be shared at 4:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The burial at the Roslyn Cemetery, Greenvale, NY, will be held privately by the family.
