

He was born on April 22, 1922 in Marlborough, the son of Wilmer Towne and Alice Mary (Osborne) Capron. Born on the family farm, he grew up in Marlborough and graduated from the Marlborough High School.
He married Marjorie Ruth McLauglin on June 16, 1956 at the Peterborough Congregational Church.
Mr. Capron worked for several years at the Monadnock Blanket Mill and Marlborough Box Company. He worked at Kingsbury Machine Corporation for 14 years and then Douglas Toy Co. for nine years. He retired from American Optical after working there for 17 years. He also owned and operated his home business, Capron Gardens, for 51 years.
He was a long time member of Sturtevant Chapel serving as a custodian for 17 years. He also served on the Music Committee and as a Trustee. He was a 7th degree Granger of The National Grange.
Mr. Capron enjoyed growing carnations, gardening, camping, trips to the beach and running his roadside stand business. He was a winning participant for many years with the annual flower competition at the Cheshire County Fair before becoming one of the judges. He also enjoyed being a Barbershopper with the Cheshiremen for 25 years.
He is survived by his son Herbert E. Capron, Jr., and wife Judith, of Boxford, MA; his two daughters Charlene Capron of Waterbury, CT and Sharon Fields of Swanzey; his brother Robert Capron of Marlborough; his sister-in-law Dorothy Capron of Peterborough; and four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His brothers Harold Capron and Gerald Capron died earlier.
Services for Mr. Capron will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 2013, 11:00 AM at Sturtevant Chapel, 15 Washington Ave., Keene, NH. A calling hour will be held an hour before at 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery in Marlborough.
