James Edward Grover

He was born in Keene, NH, July 15, 1941, the son of Delbert Edward and Margaret Agnes (Bonner) Grover.

He grew up in Swanzey and Keene, attending local schools, and was a 1959 graduate of Keene High School. He attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

On January 10, 1961, he enlisted in in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was released from active duty on January 8, 1965 and transferred to the Naval Reserves where he continued to serve until January 9, 1967.

Mr. Grover moved to Los Angeles in 1966, where he worked for 25 years in senior management of the data processing department at Ralph’s Grocery Company in Los Angeles. In 2006, he moved to Pittsburg, PA where he resided until returning to Keene in October of 2009.

He was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and in recent years, learning to play the violin. He enjoyed art, and creating oil paintings. He also enjoyed learning foreign languages. He was an avid watcher of science fiction movies and a collector of movie artifacts and posters.

He was a parishioner of St. Bernard Church and most recently, St. Margaret Mary Church, both of Keene.

He is survived by his sisters, Margaret A. Breed and her husband, Winfred, of Keene, Donna E. Pentz and her husband, Patrick, of Swanzey, NH, Nancy Bodge and her husband, Jim, of Stone Ridge, NY, Kathleen Marrotte and her husband, Pete, of Troy, NH, Victoria Bonner Hockett of Swanzey; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 2008 by his longtime friend, Richard A. Strauss.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, January 9th at 10:00AM in St. Margaret Mary Church, 33 Arch Street, Keene, NH. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. There are no public calling hours.
