

Janet E. Brown, 81, a life-long resident of Keene, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at the Genesis Care and Rehabilitation Center of Keene, on Saturday, February 11, 2012 following a period of declining health.
She was born September 27, 1930 in Keene, New Hampshire, the daughter of Thomas M. and Lilly E. (Stromgren) Flavin. She was a 1948 graduate of Keene High School. On May 19, 1956 she married the love of her life, James “Jim”, “Brownie” Brown.
Janet enjoyed spending time with her family and friend and no matter the occasion she was the life of the party. She had an amazing ability to make everyone feel welcome and always made room for anyone whether it was for a holiday meal or an evening meal. Holidays were a favorite time of Janet's and she was well known for her rice pudding and potato candies and sharing the tradition with her daughter and granddaughter. Janet was a night owl and spent many nights making elaborate birthday and wedding cakes, always with the recipients wishes in mind.. Janet always had a poem or a saying and loved teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren the many songs and poems she knew. Her quick wit and humor made her a pleasure to be around. She and her husband loved to travel and made an annual trip to Maine for quite a few years with their granddaughter as well as trips to Nova Scotia, South Dakota and many other places with family. Janet was also a proud member of the Lady’s Auxiliary of the VFW and a Shrine Lady.
.She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years: James N. Brown of Keene, NH, her daughter: Kim E. Chaffee and her husband William “Billy”, Sr. of Keene, NH, three grandchildren: Elise M. Dearth of Keene, NH, Craig Chaffee of Keene, NH and Bill Chaffee, Jr of Keene, NH, three great-grandchildren: Kasey, Kyle, and Becca, two brothers: Gordon “Jack” Flavin of Keene, NH, and Allan Flavin of Florida, one sister: Beverly A (Flavin) Budzik of Keene, NH, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers: Thomas V. Flavin and Gary P. Flavin, and two sisters: Margaret (Flavin) Goodrum and Katherine (Flavin) Spring.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Genesis Care and Rehabilitation Center of Keene at 667 Court Street Keene, NH., at 2pm on Saturday, April 7, 2012.
