Priscilla Perry Kibler, 89, passed away on February 24, 2018, at Maplewood Nursing Home. Priscilla was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Campbell, and two sons, Andrew P. and Douglas E. Kibler. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lewis F. Kibler; two sisters, Mary Jane Gill and Martha Delo and her husband, James; a son, Wendell L. Kibler and his wife, Jeannie; and a daughter, Elizabeth Lukaszewski and her husband, Glen; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven nieces, and five nephews.
Priscilla was born and raised on a farm in Swanzey, NH. At age 17 she moved to Pittsburgh to complete high school and attend the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her BSN-RN. Priscilla worked as a public health nurse until the birth of her first child. She then devoted her life to providing a beautiful, loving home for her husband and four children, eventually settling in Jamestown, NY.
A lover of the arts, Priscilla enjoyed theater, music, and dance, with special interest in ballet and opera. She loved traveling. It didn’t matter if they were chasing a new bird species for Lewis, enjoying nature on a family camping trip, or learning about the culture in a different country. Her gentle soul and kind, giving nature were apparent in the beautiful arrangements she created from the flowers she nurtured in her gardens. Priscilla made holidays especially nice, adorning her home with homemade wreaths, centerpieces, and other hand-made decorations. She was a Girl Scout leader, a hospice volunteer, a member of AAUW, Garden Club, an opera study/travel group, and the Audubon Society.
Priscilla’s personal strength, determination, and courage, combined with the undying support of her family, enabled her to survive two major strokes in her lifetime. She had almost full recovery from the first, but the second eroded the quality of her life in later years.
Priscilla and Lewis returned to her childhood home to retire. Through her husband’s devotion and the years of care he provided, she was able to live all but the last few months of her life in their home. Priscilla endured many physical challenges, but did so with little complaint. She is now free from her earthly constraints.
Burial and a celebration of her life will take place this summer.
