She was born in Keene, on March 7, 1925, the daughter of Edward L. and Eunice (VanBrocklin) Martin Sr. She grew up in Richmond on her family’s farm and was a 1943 graduate of Keene High School.
She married Herman L. “Roy” Hackler on Jan 12, 1946 in a ceremony in the First Congregational Church of Swanzey. Together they owned a farm in West Swanzey and were married for 65 years before his death in 2011.
She was a long time member of the First Congregational Church, and for many years volunteered with the RSVP Knitting Group, knitting blankets and throws and such for others, as well as with the Church during their weekly Church suppers
She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds around the farm. In the spring she would be out in the Sugar Shack, making maple syrup with Roy and in the summer she would often be found tending to her floral and vegetable gardens, so that she would have bountiful crops to can, freeze and store for winter. She was a hard worker who, on top of her job at the New England Acceptance Corporation as a Billing Clerk, from which she retired after 20+ years; would spend the rest of her time tending to the family. Family was extremely important to her. She loved having family around for the holidays and special occasions.
She is survived by her children: Rosemary Morse and her husband Peter of Keene, June Hackler and her husband John Schmidt of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Matthew Hackler and his wife Darla Roy of Boerne, TX and Peter Hackler and his wife Rebecca of Troy; six grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends that she has made over her lifetime.
