

He was born on April 26, 1946, in Boston, MA, son of the late Annabel (Butler) and John Lothrop. Attended schools in Westwood, MA, and earned his Bachelor Degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Following two years at Wentworth Rick proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force. A Vietnam Veteran, he received an honorable discharge serving as Sargent in May of 1971. After his discharge from the Air Force he completed his college earning a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
On June 14, 1969, Rick married the love of his life, Hope Reid, in Avon, MA.
Prior to settling in Nelson, NH, Rick was a member of the Avon, MA Fire Department. For the last 48 years, Rick and Hope made Nelson, NH their home, where he was employed by Markem as an Engineering Systems Manager, from which he retired. He was also a jack of all trades and was licensed in electrical work and was skilled in autobody work and restoration.
Rick was a dedicated and active member of his Nelson community. He served at the Nelson Fire Department as Chief, at the Town Hall as a Selectman, and played his tuba in the Nelson Town Band from the band’s inception. He was also a local Fire Warden and member of the Nelson Congregational Church.
While Rick’s generous soul kept him busy, he cherished every moment he could spend with his family. He also enjoyed his time connecting with nature, whether he was sailing, walking, or hiking. He was proud to hold a certificate for climbing all of the 4,000 footers in NH.
Rick will be dearly missed by his loving and unwaivering wife, Hope Lothrop of Nelson, NH; children: Karyn M. Lothrop of Falmouth, MA, and son Bryan Lothrop and his wife Kerri of Hinsdale, NH; grandchildren: Evelyn Ann, Alyssa Shelby, and Mason Reid; sister: Nancy J. Basselet; nieces: Apryl Ashcraft, Michelle Basselet, and Anya Lothrop; nephew: Kerry Lothrop; as well as extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Robert W. Lothrop and Beverly J. Lothrop.
Rick’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Pine Rock Manor and Amedisys Hospice for their impeccable care and support throughout Rick’s journey.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH. A memorial service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
