

He was born January 10, 1929 in Keene, NH the son of Oscar and Alice (Ellor) Bloom. He was a 1947 graduate of Keene High School.
Roger attended radio school in NYC and shortly thereafter became the chief radio operator on the Eastern Steamship Line, the SS Yarmouth. He spent 2-1/2 years traveling the world. In 1948 he married Madelyn Keating, his high school sweetheart and they moved to Lawrenceville NJ where he took a job with AT&T as an overseas radio transmitter. They raised their 4 children there. In 1974 he transferred to Bangor ME and went to work for Verizon. There he met Elsie Campbell, his companion for the next 43 years.
Roger had many hobbies and interests. He was a lifelong amateur radio operator, often times assembling his own radios. For several years he was a volunteer at NJ Pennington Rd Fire Co where he served as chief for 3 years. He also loved music and played the french horn and banjo. He enjoyed several trips to Florida and meeting with extended family members for reunions. He loved the many dogs he’s had throughout the years.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda J. Rule of Richmond, NH and Joyce B. Talley of Katy, TX; his son, Kevin A. Bloom and his wife Debbie of Croydon, PA; grandchildren, Jay Talley (Elizabeth), Shannon Talley (Wyman), Tammy Desrosiers (Kurt), Rebecca Rule (Andrew), Edward Lamoureux (Missy), Michael Bloom, Matthew Bloom (Kimberly), Andrew Bloom (Sara), Christine Barkalow (Justin) and Robert Bloom (Alli); great-grandchildren, Amanda, Quetsy, Kaleb, James, Jacob and Sawyer; great-great-grandchildren, Gracie, Payton, Jayme and Joshua; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is predeceased by his four siblings, Arlene, Ruth, Chester and Vincent; his son, Dennis Bloom, and son-in-law, John Rule.
A Celebration of Roger's life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 from 5 to 7pm at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court St. Keene, NH.
