

She was born in Hempstead New York, on September 29, 1919, daughter of Carlton and Ruth (Brevard) Treadwell.
After earning an undergraduate degree in Music and a Master’s degree in Education from New York University, Mrs. Webb became a devoted kindergarten school teacher in New York. While she worked for various school systems, her primary employer was with the Lawrence (NY) Free Union School District, School # 4.
She believed that it was imperative for children to learn and understand academic and fundamental lessons from their teachers and knowing that Kindergarten was the gateway to such learning, she was dedicated to those young developing minds. With a fervent desire to constantly enhance her teaching ability, while teaching, Mrs. Webb continued her post graduate education at New York University, acquiring 40 Points beyond her master’s degree with straight “A’s”.
Mrs. Webb was voted “teacher of the year,” for Nassau and Suffolk Counties and placed 2nd for Teacher of the year in the State of New York during her career.
She loved classical music and had played at the Carnegie Hall. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and also the organist for St. James Episcopal church in Long Island and volunteered as a Vice Chaplain at the Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, Florida during her residency from 1999 to 2012. Most of all, she loved and nurtured her family throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her son, Dwight Webb of Keene, NH and four grandchildren; Sara, Nicholas, Samuel and Rebecca and their mother Karyn Webb. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Lamarr Webb who died in 1985.
A memorial service will take place at the St. James Episcopal Church; 44 West Street, Keene NH on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 3:00 PM, Reverend Mark Jenkins is officiating. There are no calling hours or graveside service.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association, 251 N Main St #115, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, Feed the Children, 333 N. Meridian, Oklahoma City, OK 73107 or to the St. James Episcopal Church, “Altar Guild Fund”, 44 West Street, Keene, NH 03431.
