He was born January 22, 1952, in Chelsea, MA, the son of Walton A. and Gertrude Ann (Glover) Skinner, Jr. He was a 1970 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in Dover, NH. He went on to attend Boston School of Architecture. On November 27, 1986 he married the love of his life, Kathryn Kelly.
He was very passionate about the work that he did, using his creativity to design beautiful businesses and homes throughout the Monadnock Region. His work was something that he took very seriously and he thought of it as his “calling”, feeling that it was an opportunity to express himself. Wayne was a devoted father and husband; spending time with his family was something he felt was most important. He supported his daughter in her endeavors to pursue higher education and to fulfill her dreams. Wayne also enjoyed playing and coaching softball for the TPI Softball Team in Keene. Cooking was something that brought him great joy: creating masterpieces in the kitchen and satisfying even the toughest of critics with his abilities. His connection to the planet was deep rooted, hoping to capture its natural beauty in everything he created: whether he was designing the perfect view of Mount Monadnock through a window, cooking with fresh, organic food, or filling wooden barrels with his rich, homemade red wine.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn K. Skinner of Keene, NH; his daughter, Sydney J. Skinner of Keene, NH; his brother, Walton A. Skinner, III of Deland, FL; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Corinne Kelly of Keene; his sister-in-law, Karen Dostilio; two brothers-in-law, Kevin Kelly and Anthony Dostilio; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Washington Street in Keene. Family and friends are invited to call on the family on Monday, August 25, 2014, at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH, from 3:00 to 5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wayne Walton Skinner Memorial Fund, c/o TD Bank located at 194 West Street in Keene, c/o Kathryn Skinner, to support the continued educational goals of his daughter, Sydney.
