She was born in Port Arthur, Texas. As a young lady, she worked in Houston for the telephone company as a “Hello Girl,” serving as a telephone switchboard operator.
Over the years, Alva enjoyed collecting a variety of unique items. She took special joy in decorating her home for the holidays—every day felt like Christmas at the Horn House. Alva was never afraid to speak her mind. Mamu was also a wonderful storyteller, sharing fond memories of her life and experiences.
She was known for saying, “Dame tu mano,” as both a greeting and a farewell to those she met. Her friendship will be deeply missed.
Alva was a devoted mother to Richard and Alan, her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Lee Horn. She is survived by her sons, Richard Michael Horn (late wife, Lurana) and Alan Rory Horn (Tanya), who will never forget the love she brought into their lives.
