

Eugene Murl Fichter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born on September 11, 1943, in Marysville, Missouri, to Arlene and Louis Fichter. He passed away leaving behind a legacy of dedication to family, service to his country, and a lifelong passion for aviation.
Eugene grew up alongside his older brother, Randall, who currently resides in Spring, Texas. In 1964, Eugene enlisted in the United States Army, entering the aviation service area. After completing basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, he continued pursuing his love of airplanes while serving honorably during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Eugene attended college on the GI Bill. Aviation remained a central part of his life and career—from crop dusting in South Texas to beginning his professional career with McDonnell Douglas. He later spent more than twenty years working for Eastern airlines, and then other national companies, building a respected career in the aviation industry.
On July 24, 1965, Eugene married the love of his life, Sherry Yvonne Carver, in Edinburg, Texas. Together they built a life rooted in love, perseverance, and family. They welcomed three children: Leigh, Louis, and Joshua. Their son Louis passed away shortly after birth due to a heart defect.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Sherry Fichter. He is also survived by his daughter, Leigh, who lives in Keller, Texas, with her husband Bob. Their two sons, Trevor, his fiancée Brianna, and Jared and his wife Lexie; and by his son, Joshua, who lives in Fort Worth, Texas, with his wife Christy and their two children, Christian and Peyton. He is also survived by his brother, Randall and his wife, Norma Jean.
Eugene had a deep love for reading, home projects, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the dedication he showed to those he loved.
Eugene passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2026. His memory will live on in the lives of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Smithfield United Methodist Church in North Richland Hills, Texas.
