Gary was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on September 19, 1944.
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in music at The University of Texas at Arlington. He was a member of the UTA Madrigals.
He met the former Patricia Parker of Ft. Worth in November of 1970 and they were married in January of 1971. Gary worked at Bell Helicopter, was the part time music and youth director at First Baptist Church of Meridian, TX on the weekends.
Gary was a Minister of Music at Springdale Baptist Church of Ft. Worth.
He was working toward his Master’s Degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth when he and Patty became the proud parents of a baby boy, Gary Duwayne Lancaster II in 1975.
Gary taught voice at Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas in 1977 and 1978. He started a touring choir called The Spirit of Truth who represented the school nationwide, traveling the entire month of January of 1977 on the west coast singing at churches and the entire month of June on the east coast.
Gary and Patty moved back to Ft. Worth and Gary worked at Dillard’s, Sanger Harris, and later Macy’s at N. E. Mall.
He and Patty went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company
which is now AT&T.
Gary played trumpet and enjoyed model railroading.
In 1998 Gary and Patty adopted their daughter, Sushia in Russia. Their son, Gary II was 23 at the time and living in Dallas.
Gary retired from Southwestern Bell (Now AT&T) in 2000.
He became a substitute teacher for the HEB and Keller school districts. Gary is survived by Patricia Lancaster, his wife of 50 years, his daughter, Sushia Lancaster, his son, Gary Lancaster-Mayzure of Chicago, and sister Jeannie Peden of Cleburne.
