With his loving wife of nearly 60 years at his bedside, Theo Richard Tibbitts passed from this life and into the next on May 28, 2022, at his home in Texas. Richard was born on June 28th, 1936, in Providence, Utah to Phyllis Dahle and Theo Lamont Tibbitts. He was taught by his grandmother Marie how to serve others, a gift he used throughout his lifetime.
After serving in the Air Force in Japan and Montana, Richard attended the University of Utah and began his lifelong career in sales. The most important sales pitch he ever gave was accompanied by yellow roses. Ethel Irene Smith said yes and they were married in the Logan Utah Temple in 1962.
There was no pretense with Richard. He genuinely cared for all who crossed his path. His life was based on his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ and his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wherever he lived, he served in many church capacities, including in the bishopric of a young single adults congregation until he was 80 years old. One of his greatest joys was working in the Dallas Texas Temple for 12 years. He recognized those in need, was gentle, and side by side with his wife, cared for others with compassion and love.
Richard loved his family, was proud of them, and they were always in his thoughts. His children are grateful for the many lessons he taught them about hard work (pulling weeds in the acre-sized garden and church welfare farm), diligence (saying yes every time he was asked to contribute time or effort), and integrity (fulfilling every commitment he made).
Richard is survived by his wife, Ethel, children Lorri Bird (Dwight) of Kaysville, Utah, Craig Tibbitts (Nancy) of Centennial, Colorado, Brian Tibbitts (Kim) of Ft. Worth, Texas, Brandon Tibbitts (Natalie) of Alamosa, Colorado, 16 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Dixie, and brothers James and David. He is survived by his wife, children, and brothers Greg, Scott, and Scyler Tibbitts of Idaho.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 11:00 am with a viewing preceding from 10:00-10:45 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4401 E Loop 820 N., North Richland Hills, Texas. Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Keller Old Town Funeral Home.
