Albert Norman Manarin

Albert was born in Kimberley, BC in 1933; the eldest child of Giosue and Silvia Manarin. He moved with his family to Rutland in 1945 and remained a “Rutland boy” for life, even when he wasn’t living there. He loved his sports and was heavily involved in the Rutland Rovers for a great many years. In later years, cross-country skiing and golf were his passions.

He met Erna Kummer, the love of his life in 1952 and they married in 1956. They built a house and planted a small orchard on the Rutland bench and had two sons, Allan and Ken. In addition to sports, he loved to go camping and fishing. There were many fishing trips throughout the BC interior and he and Erna took their trusty motorhome farther afield through BC, Alberta, NWT, Yukon and Alaska.

Never afraid of hard work, as a teenager he started working at Thompson Auto Supply sweeping floors and ultimately bought and ran the company with his business partner in the late 1960s and early 1970s. After selling it, he managed Magrath Auto Supply in Rutland for many years and retired in 1997 after more than 45 years in the auto parts business. Always happy to stop and chat with the many people he got to know, it was always a chore going shopping with our parents because it would take him an hour to make it through Sears!

Albert leaves behind his wife Erna, sons Allan (Karen) and Ken (Joyce), brother David (Anne), sisters Loretta (Nick) and Linda (Farrell). He was predeceased by his parents and sister Margaret.

There will be no service by his request. Our family would like to thank two of the best doctors a person could ever wish for – his GP Dr. Alexis Thomson and his oncologist Dr. Barbara Campling.
