Al was born on March 17, 1950, in Princeton, British Columbia to Henry and Marj Stieb. Al was the second of nine children, six boys and three girls. Al left home at the age of 17 to serve his country and enlist in the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1968 he met his forever friend and future wife Maureen. They married in 1969 and began their family with Todd born in 1971 and Chad in 1975. Al's final post in the military was at CFS Kamloops where he worked radar for NORAD. Al took a discharge in 1982 and the years that followed were spent in the hospitality industry and the oil industry in Alberta. His latter years took them to the Columbia Valley of BC, where he enjoyed golf and milder weather. At that time, Al became a member of the Invermere Legion and a few days before his hospitalization he spoke to school children about the importance of Remembrance Day and the significance behind it.
Al was predeceased by his mother Marj, father Henry, father-in-law George Simpson, brother Randy, sisters Diann and Debbie and a later in life sister Dianne Hoy. Nephews Shawn and Rory, and niece Melissa.
Al leaves behind his wife and best friend of 57 years Maureen. Sons Todd and Chad (Marla) and his beautiful and talented granddaughters Brayann and Taylor. Brothers, Jim (Gail), Brian, Barry and Darrel along with his sister Dixie. Mother-in-law Iris Simpson, brothers in law Red Simpson and Bob Simpson (Bev). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A thank you to the numerous doctors and nurses at Kelowna General Hospital who cared for Al while he was in their care (yes, he could be difficult). We would also like to thank family, friends and everyone else that supported our family at this time. Your compassion, generosity and love did not go unnoticed.
At a later date in 2026, the family will honor Al's wish of laying him to rest next to his mother Marj in Westwold, BC. There, he will join his sisters Diann and Dianne Hoy and his nephew Rory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valleyviewfuneralhome.com for the Stieb family.
