Bernard Camper

Bernard Camper passed away in Kelowna, BC, on June 28, 2026, at age 97. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Myrtle, his parents, Arthur and Olive, his brother Dennis, sister-in-law Brenda and nephew Paul. He is survived by his son, Martyn (Joy), grandchildren Michael and Cicely (David Bizeau), and great-grandson Desmond (all of Ontario).

Bernard was born July 21, 1928, in Romford, Essex, UK. He lived most of his childhood in Rayleigh, further to the east and close to the River Thames. His family were committed Christians, and in 1942 Bernard made his personal commitment to Jesus Christ. Because of WWII, he did not get a good education, but went to work to help the family. He spent many years in the shoe business, specializing in store organization and displays. He married Myrtle (Thorn) in 1951, and they had one son, Martyn.

In 1970 he began a new career in Canada, as an administrator in various Christian mission and relief organizations. These included Canadian evangelist Barry Moore’s Crusade Evangelism International, Youth For Christ, and World Vision, among others. He traveled widely, and preached often. Although he retired in 1993, he continued to be active as a Board member with various organizations. He and Myrtle moved to Kelowna in 1996. They were active in Mission Creek Alliance Church.

A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 am, in Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 7X1
